Background
The Epilepsy Research Institute serves as the central hub for the epilepsy research community. Our mission is to radically advance research into the causes, prevention and treatment of epilepsy and associated conditions. The Institute aims to strengthen the epilepsy research ecosystem by driving strategic investment and developing partnerships and collaborations between academia, the NHS, industry, funders, patent groups and people affected by epilepsy. Central to everything we do is a culture of advocating and actioning research priorities. Our ambition is to accelerate innovations for the 1 in 100 people living with epilepsy through increased strategic research investment, capacity building and research translation.
Underpinning our strategy are six themed research programmes, with a task force group led by leading UK scientists and clinicians. These research themes are driving a programme to secure large-scale research investment which will feed into an overall roadmap for research into epilepsy.
About the Role
This is a key senior executive level appointment taking responsibility, and a lead role, in seeking and securing a wide range of strategic partnerships with relevant bodies to accelerate the implementation and growth of the Institute’s research programme and wider impact through strategic investment.
Reporting to the Chief Executive, the CSO will have strategic oversight of all the Institute’s research activity. You will work closely the relevant team members to shape and deliver the Institutes Research Strategy, supporting the coordination and cohesion of the science and research across the six key theme areas.
The successful candidate will meet the person specification and bring with them a breadth of experience across the science and research portfolio to work and influence at all levels and bring about the ambitious change we are targeting through the radical advancement of research into epilepsy.
