BNA Annual General Meeting 2025
1st April 2025
Clinical Professor in Neuroimaging
Division of Psychological Medicine and Clinical Neurosciences
Cardiff University Schools of Medicine and Psychology
College Of Biomedical and Life Sciences
Here is a rare opportunity for an exceptional individual to take a pivotal role in developing clinical neuroimaging research capacity at Cardiff University in a partnership between the MRC Centre for Neuropsychiatric Genetics and Genomics (CNGG) and the Cardiff University Brain Research Imaging Centre (CUBRIC).
The MRC Centre for Neuropsychiatric Genetics and Genomics (CNGG) is the largest psychiatric genetics group in the UK, and is hosted by the Division of Psychological Medicine and Clinical Neurosciences at Cardiff University’s School of Medicine and based at the University’s flagship Hadyn Ellis Building (HEB). As Wales’ first MRC Centre, we bring together world-leading researchers to investigate the causes of major psychiatric disorders. Our use of clinical, genomic, statistical and bioinformatic expertise to tackle the challenges posed by psychiatric disorders across the full lifespan is unique and was recognised in 2016 through the award of a Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Higher Education.
Part of the School of Psychology and one of Europe’s top facilities for brain imaging, CUBRIC is housed in a new, state-of-the-art £44M building adjacent to HEB. Our vision is to understand brain and behaviour in health and disease through advanced imaging and cognitive methods and in doing so we bring together world-leading expertise in brain mapping with the very latest in brain imaging and brain stimulation.
You will lead both an independent research programme and the wider growth of clinical imaging in Cardiff. You will be a scholar of significant repute with a proven ability or strong potential to lead and develop internationally excellent research activity at the interface between brain imaging and the genetics and genomics of neuropsychiatric disorders. You will work closely with internationally distinguished groups in both CNGG and CUBRIC. You should be able to demonstrate an effective collaborative work ethic, the ability to attract independent, peer-reviewed research grant funding in open competition and a proven track record of high-impact publications.
Having been ranked 2nd in the UK’s REF2014 in Psychology, Psychiatry and Neuroscience, we are committed to building on our existing world-leading research and striving for future, ground-breaking successes. Should you possess a track record of international academic excellence, combined with an inspirational and inclusive leadership style and the drive to foster and exploit local, national and international collaborations then please contact Vicky Hirst (hirstv@cardiff.ac.uk) or psych-hr@cardiff.ac.uk to arrange informal and confidential discussions and for a copy of the full Job Description.
