About Eli Lilly

Lilly is a global healthcare leader that unites caring with discovery to make life better for people around the world. We were founded more than a century ago by a man committed to creating high-quality medicines that meet real needs, and today we remain true to that mission in all our work.

Across the globe, Lilly employees work to discover and bring life-changing medicines to those who need them, improve the understanding and management of disease, and give back to communities through philanthropy and volunteerism.

About the position

We have an exciting position as Geneticist within the Pain therapeutic area and are seeking a motivated, innovative, skilled and enthusiastic scientist, who can analyse and interpret human genetic data.

You are keen to apply genetic knowledge to identify potential novel targets for Pain Therapeutics, using innovative approaches and working in partnership with our colleagues in Pain Biology, Neuroscience and Lilly, as well as external collaborations. You will work as part of a wider team of bioinformaticians, statisticians and data scientists to identify and integrate genomic data across several modalities with genetics, in order to support the identification of novel targets. The overall goal of the role is to discover biological insights that will translate into innovative new pain medications for patients.

Successful candidates will work in a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary environment of scientific excellence, interacting with Lilly scientists and external collaborators across multiple disciplines to advance Lilly drug discovery and clinical development.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, being able to:

  • Analyse and interpret human genetic data
  • Identify and implement opportunities for human genetics to drive decision making on target selection, validation and patient stratification for the pain therapeutic area at Lilly.
  • Identify and obtain relevant genetic and genomic data from public sources and integrate this information with internal knowledge.
  • Identify external collaborators, in order to fill gaps in our knowledge, for the commissioning of new data and types of analysis
  • Participate in and lead project teams with Lilly scientists and external collaborators.
  • Be responsible for effective communication of genetic findings, with expert interpretation, to project teams and the wider company.
  • Find creative solutions and work with flexibility and agility to address challenging scientific questions.
  • Contribute to the developing science of drug target identification and validation.

Basic Qualifications

  • Ability to work with others in a collegiate and collaborative environment
  • Motivation and ambition to make a personal contribution to genomic research
  • Experience in genetic studies including analysis and interpretation of genome-wide and phenome wide association studies.
  • A PhD in a relevant subject (human genetics, statistical genetics, genetic epidemiology, functional genomics, computer science, maths)
  • Statistical/computational genetics skills and an analytical mindset
  • Previous experience with analysis of genotype, sequence or functional genomic data
  • An attention to detail and a drive for rigour
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to communicate complex concepts in the genomics and genetics area to influence diverse audiences.
