his post provides an exciting opportunity to join a passionate team and contribute to the newly launched BSc in Neuroscience and Psychology at King's College London.

The post-holder will play a critical role in the development and delivery of an innovative curriculum to teach our UG students the knowledge and skills required for transparent and reproducible research methods and quantitative data analysis as applied in cognitive/systems/computational neuroscience. They will also contribute to teaching in cognitive/systems/computational neuroscience and methods.

As a member of the core teaching team, the post holder will also make substantial contributions to the management and administration of the programme, and the provision of research projects to year 3 students.

The appointment can be as a Research (40%) & Education (60%) post or as an Education only post (on the KCL Academic Education pathway) depending on the candidate's preferences.

If the postholder is appointed on a Research & Education contract, they are expected to demonstrate engagement in high-quality research activity and a developing research profile, as evidenced by a track record of publications including publications meeting a Research Excellence Framework (REF) standard of 3* or higher, a clear publication plan, and/or previous success in research funding applications. They are also expected to demonstrate a clear research agenda and plan for future grants.

If the postholder is appointed on an Education only contract, they are expected to demonstrate a track record of and commitment to innovation in the teaching of statistics, mathematics and programming to UG students in psychology and/or neuroscience.

All post-holders are expected to be familiar with the BPS curriculum, and be enthusiastic educators committed to developing, implementing and evaluating innovative teaching and assessment methods, enhancing student experience to the highest level.

Person Criteria

Essential criteria

  • First degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, or related subject (2:1 or above)
  • PhD in Psychology, Psychological Statistics, Cognitive/Systems/Computational Neuroscience, or equivalent experience
  • Expertise in advanced data analysis methods as applied in cognitive/systems/computational neuroscience (primarily using R; with knowledge of Python and/or Matlab), statistics, quantitative modelling, programming and current transparent research practises
  • Excellent knowledge of a research area in Cognitive/Systems/Computational neuroscience to develop content and supervise student projects
  • Track record and commitment to innovation in teaching and assessment (esp. of data analysis methods as applied in cognitive/systems/computational neuroscience)
  • Experience in delivering excellent quality teaching in data analysis and research methods in multiple settings and formats, including lecture, small group, digital and/or blended learning to UG students in Psychology and/or neuroscience
  • Experience in supervision, support and guidance of UG students
  • Experience of designing and running undergraduate modules
  • A track record of publications including publications meeting the Research Excellence Framework (REF) standard of 3* or higher
  • Experience in writing competitive funding applications to a range of research organisations (Research & Education pathway) or to support education focused research (Education pathway)
  • Excellent student feedback on teaching and supervision
  • Evidence of high self-motivation and ability to organise, plan and prioritise own work load
  • Being a team player able to engage actively with students and colleagues and contribute to the management and administration of the programme

Desirable criteria

  • A demonstrable understanding of, and commitment to working within, principles of equality and diversity (Desirable)
  • Higher Education teaching qualification (e.g. PGCAPHE or PGCHE)
