Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time clinical pharmacist to join the Neurosciences Team at North Bristol NHS Trust. We are looking for an experienced and motivated pharmacist with excellent organisational and team working skills. Experience in the pharmaceutical care of neurosciences patients is desirable but not essential. You will be welcomed into a supportive team and develop expertise in the clinical area.

You will work alongside the Lead Neurosciences Pharmacist and be a key member of the multidisciplinary team delivering and promoting evidence-based, cost-effective and patient-focused pharmaceutical care to neurosciences patients.

Key activities will be to:

  • Ensure the safe provision of complex and high-cost medicines to our large cohort of outpatients with a range of neurological conditions (including multiple sclerosis, migraine, epilepsy, movement disorders and spinal muscular atrophy).
  • Provide specialist pharmaceutical care to neurosciences inpatients.
  • Support the education and training of pharmacy colleagues and other healthcare professionals in relation to neuro-pharmacy.
  • Apply pharmaceutical expertise to review, develop and implement guidelines and policy relating to the care of neurosciences patients.

Furthermore, you will support work to develop the neurosciences pharmacy service. Hence, this is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious pharmacist with an interest in service development.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide specialist clinical pharmacy services at a high level to the Neurosciences Specialty of the Neurosciences and Musculoskeletal Division.
  • To provide support to the highly specialist neurosciences pharmacist.
  • To teach and supervise less experienced pharmacists, technicians and students.
  • To act in accordance with Medicines legislation, the code of ethics of the General Pharmaceutical Council, United Kingdom Medicines Information (UKMI) standards and Trust policies and procedures.

The Institute of Neurosciences at North Bristol NHS Trust is the regional centre for Neurological services. It provides specialised services for a wide spectrum of Neurological conditions.

We are a large pharmacy department with over 70 clinical pharmacists including many Specialist posts. The clinical ward pharmacy service is well established and provided by pharmacist and medicine management technicians. As part of the new hospital, we have a very modern pharmacy department including the largest dispensing robot in Europe.
