We are seeking a highly motivated and well-organised research assistant with an interest in neuroscience and/or inflammation to work on a funded project on brain inflammation, neurodegeneration and cognitive function. The purpose of the post is to conduct research and to provide assistance to others on the research team on a project examining the impact of systemic inflammation, triggered by Tumor Necrosis Factor alpha (TNF?), on neuro-inflammatory, cognitive, metabolic and neurodegenerative processes in animal models of Alzheimer’s disease. The post will involve use of standard biomedical sciences lab methods (qPCR, ELISA, Western blotting, immunohistochemistry) as well as working with mice in behavioural experiments. In addition the post will include some management of the laboratory in a more general sense.
Standard Duties and Responsibilities of the Post
• Performance of biochemical analysis of brain tissue.
• Preparation and analysis of histological sections for immunohistochemistry,
immunofluorescence and microscopy.
• Performance of behavioural experiments with mice.
• Analysis of blood and CSF samples as may arise
• Assistance with the management and practical supervision of students in the laboratory.
• Management of the lab, including ordering of lab consumables and assistance in management of
mouse transgenic colonies
