BNA Annual General Meeting 2025
1st April 2025
Dementia is the biggest health challenge of our century. To date, there is no way to prevent it or even slow its progression, and there is an urgent need to fill the knowledge gap in our basic understanding of the diseases that cause it.
The UK Dementia Research Institute (UK DRI) is the biggest UK initiative driving forward research to fill this gap.
Game changing progress in dementia research will require a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach to deliver ground-breaking science. To facilitate this the UK DRI has established cross-centre “themes” focused on specific research areas within dementia research. Each thematic group brings multidisciplinary expertise from across the seven UK DRI centres to explore crucial questions, develop new technologies, explore experimental and therapeutic approaches, and share and make better use of data and data analytics.
The Research Theme Project Manager drives the Themes’ activity, working closely with the Themes’ Scientific Leads to coordinate communication and knowledge sharing between researchers across the seven centres, as well as the Headquarters team and the wider thematic communities. They manage the Theme budgets, along with logistics on behalf of the Theme membership, organise meetings, workshops and events, and establish strong working relationships between researchers across the whole UK DRI.
This role will be based in the London Headquarters team but may require occasional travel to the other UK DRI host institutions and attendance at out-of-hours activities.
We are looking for a strongly motivated, communicative project manager with an interest in neurodegenerative disorders.
You’ll have experience in formal project management in a science or technical environment, know how to utilise communications channels to target information to the right audiences, and been responsible for independently organising and managing events. An excellent contemporary knowledge of biomedical neuroscience and dementia research, along with an understanding of and interest in the mission and research of the UK DRI, are essential. Excellent interpersonal, communication and time management skills are critical to the role, as is an ability to forge strong working relationships with internal and external colleagues and stakeholders.
