Roles and responsibilities

This full-time role is perfect for someone looking to use their existing writing and scientific knowledge to produce exceptional content for clients, while also working with other writers in our team to help them hone their skills.

The role’s responsibilities include:

  • Writing blog posts, eBooks, whitepapers, social posts, application notes, case studies, promotional email copy, web copy, landing page copy etc. for our clients
  • Interviewing client specialists, thought leaders and customers to drive content production
  • Storyboarding and copywriting infographics
  • Reviewing and editing the work of other science writers, checking for effective story structure, clarity, grammar, style and delivery against the project brief
  • Coaching other writers to help them improve in these areas through constructive feedback and training
  • Working as part of our internal inbound marketing team to troubleshoot and optimise our service delivery model, while also breaking new ground and driving innovation within the agency

Skills and experience required

The ideal candidate would have the following skills and experience, which they would be able to demonstrate through examples and at interview:

This role would suit someone who loves immersing themselves in a topic and writing for most of their day (although there is typically time each week allocated to working and brainstorming with the client account teams as part of briefing sessions). It would also appeal to someone who loves learning new things, craves variety (we write about many different scientific topics) and enjoys pushing themselves to develop outside of their comfort zone.

  • A PhD in chemistry or biology (and experience working at the lab bench in academia or industry)
  • At least 5 years of experience creating marketing-related content for life science companies in a range of formats (including blog posts, eBooks, whitepapers, social posts etc., as outlined above)
  • Previous experience reviewing and editing the work of other science writers
  • The ability to write clearly and concisely, as well as translate complex scientific ideas into compelling stories
  • Experience writing content with SEO in mind
  • A flair for creative writing (e.g. creating compelling, engaging social media posts and email copy)
  • Exceptional written and spoken English, including excellent grammar
  • A keen eye for detail
  • A “get stuff done” mindset and an unrelenting desire to do ridiculously good work
  • A passion for learning and be a proven problem-solver
  • A desire to be a strong team player and a coaching mindset when it comes to working with other science writers in the team
  • Excellent organisational, time-management and problem-solving skills
  • An understanding of the inbound marketing process and how to create content targeting different buyer personas along the varying stages of their buying journey would be an advantage (but is not required)
