BNA Training: Introduction to Neuroanatomy

BNA Event - 27th Mar 2025

Event details

  • Thursday 27 March 2025, 14.00- 16.30
  • Online training webinar
  • CPD registered

Course Overview

Neurology/Neuroscience is considered a difficult topic for many medical and health care related students and early career practitioners.  This course will cover the basics of anatomy of the brain and spinal cord, targeted at medical/healthcare students and healthcare trainees.  The focus of the session will be to provide an overview of clinical neuroanatomy and to apply this anatomical knowledge to clinical relevant examples.  It is expected that, following the session, participants will use anatomical knowledge to better understand how damage to the brain and spinal cord underly the symptoms seen in neurological conditions such as stroke and spinal cord injury.

By the end of this session participants will be able to:

  • Explain the link between brain and spinal cord neuroanatomy and function
  • Apply knowledge of the anatomy of the brain and spinal cord to answer clinically relevant cases

Who is the course for:

This course is open to BNA Members and non-Members and will be of particular interest to:

  • Undergraduate medical students
  • Junior doctors
  • Undergraduate neuroscientists

Dr Paul Hubbard, Newcastle University

Dr Hubbard is a senior lecturer at Newcastle University medical school and deputy dean for education in the faculty of medical sciences.  He has a background in neuroscience, researching spinal cord injury at King’s College London, and dementia at the University of Birmingham, before moving into medical education at Newcastle University in 2013.  Dr Hubbard has taught neuroscience and neuroanatomy for over 20 years both in the UK and in Malaysia at Newcastle University’s Medical (NUMed) overseas campus.  He also has extensive experience in teaching online having worked as an associate lecturer for the Open University for over 10 years.  Recently Dr Hubbard has become interested in medical students’ perceptions of neuroscience/neurology education at medical school and how this influences their approach to neurology upon graduation.
