President's Invitation and Welcome
Welcome to the 54th annual INA meeting in Belfast 2018.
This meeting is dedicated to all clinical and research neuroscience specialties. This meeting is traditionally one of the friendliest and most social events in the calendar, at the same time maintaining a high academic standard
We particularly invite submissions from those who have not presented at meetings before and the meeting is open to medical students who may wish to submit interesting case reports.
We are particularly honoured to have Professor Rob Taylor, an international expert in mitochondrial disease, as our keynote speaker.

The Guest Lecture will be delivered by Robert W. Taylor, Professor of Mitochondrial Pathology, Wellcome Centre for Mitochondrial Research, Newcastle University. The title of Prof. Taylor's lecture will be "Clinical mitochondrial disease: what’s the best way to make a diagnosis?"
Biography
Rob Taylor obtained his first degree in Biochemistry and his PhD in Molecular Genetics from Newcastle University where he was appointed as a Lecturer in 2001. He is currently Professor of Mitochondrial Pathology at the Wellcome Centre for Mitochondrial Research in Newcastle and an Honorary Consultant Clinical Scientist with the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, leading the NHS Highly Specialised Mitochondrial Laboratory which provides a UK-wide diagnostic service for patients with mitochondrial disease. His research laboratory focuses on the biochemical and molecular genetic investigation of human mitochondrial disorders, with interests ranging from determining the molecular mechanisms by which inherited mitochondrial genetic abnormalities cause cellular dysfunction and identifying new genes associated with both paediatric-onset and adult-onset mitochondrial disease presentations to the development of techniques to prevent the transmission of serious mitochondrial disease
