BNA Scholars Design and Host "Brain Sciences Symposium" aimed at supporting Early Career Researchers from Underrepresented Backgrounds
13th January 2025
External Event - 17th Sep 2019
Mental Health and Justice is a multi-disciplinary research initiative, funded by the Wellcome Trust spanning psychiatry, law, ethics, neuroscience, social science, public policy and service user involvement. The project takes an interdisciplinary approach to two fundamental duties: the duty to protect people in contexts where they can be vulnerable and the duty to respect their agency and autonomy.
We expect a diverse audience which will include non-clinical neuroscientists, clinicians in mental health and related fields, and ethicists, social scientists, service users and others.
We aim to promote sharing of ideas and knowledge and lively discussion.
By the end of the symposium all attendees should appreciate the possibilities and limitations that neuroscience can bring to ethical dilemmas around capacity and decision making and should feel satisfied that they have both shared and gained insights into the issues that confront us all in our professional and everyday lives.
