As part of Brain Awareness Week 2018, Edinburgh Medical School will be opening up the historic Anatomy Lecture Theatre for an interactive performance of simulated brain surgery, featuring state-ofthe-art surgical technology. Neurotheatre – Live Brain Surgery!
This event takes place at the Anatomy Lecture Theatre, Doorway 3, Old Medical School, The University of Edinburgh on 14th March 2018 from 5.30pm to 7.45pm.
Led by a diverse cast of neurosurgeons, A&E doctors and medical students, Neurotheatre will give audience members insight into the emergency care and neurosurgical treatment of a patient following a road traffic accident. In an experience that guarantees to be both captivating and educational, members of the public will witness the work of the emergency services before hearing a first-hand account of the effects of traumatic brain injury by a patient ambassador from the charity Headway.
Interactive pop-up stalls Prior to the performance, audience members will have a chance to try their hand at suturing and emergency first-aid as well as to learn about the cutting-edge technologies used in rehabilitation of patients following brain injury.
There will also be the opportunity to enjoy refreshments and to meet the medical and surgical staff involved.
