To coincide with our 50th anniversary, the British Neuroscience Association (BNA) has published a Special Collection compiling 50-year reviews on a wide breadth of neuroscience topics.
Neuroscience matters. It is one of the largest and most exciting fields within biomedicine and has captured widespread public interest - it is, after all, the science of who we are. The effective translation of neuroscience research has had, and continues to have, profound implications for the health and well-being of both the individual and society in general.
This special collection celebrates the 50th anniversary of the British Neuroscience Association. Now a professional society with over 2000 members, the BNA started in 1965 with just a small group of brain researchers meeting regularly in a London pub - The Black Horse. This group was formalized to become the Brain Research Association in 1968. Its focus was broadened by changing its name, in 1996, to the British Neuroscience Association.
In this collection leading neuroscientists reflect on past discoveries, review present understanding, and consider how their respective areas of expertise may develop in years ahead. It will be invaluable for students learning a subject for the first time, for lecturers in their teaching, for scientists wanting an overview of their field, and for anyone wanting highly-readable neuroscience written by the people who increase our understanding of it every day.
Editors: Professors Alan M. Palmer, John Aggleton and Stafford Lightman, with special thanks to Deborah Castle.
